User Guide
From your first block to a complete materials plan. Follow the quick start or jump to the tool you need.
Your first calculation
Use Calculate Materials for one item. Use Add to Build List when you want totals for several items together.
- Choose an itemSearch by name or select a category, then click an item tile.
- Set the quantityType a number, use +/−, or choose a quick quantity such as 64.
- Calculate or addCalculate Materials shows the single-item result. Add to Build List includes it in a larger project.
- Review your planCheck Raw Materials for what to gather and Crafting Plan for the order of operations.
Find an item
Use the search box for names or alternate names. Category buttons narrow the item grid on larger screens; on phones, use the compact Item category picker. A new search covers the full catalog. Scroll the item results and use Load more to reveal additional matches.
Item tiles
Each item has its own symbol combining shape, material color, and a short label. The full item name beside it identifies the exact choice. Hover over or focus an item tile for its description and common uses. Clicking the tile selects it. On a small screen, use Change item to reopen the selector.
Source details
Use the i button beside a material to open dimensions, biomes, structures, obtaining method, and harvesting guidance. It works with touch and keyboard; use Close or Escape to dismiss it. Biome tooltips controls quick hover tips only. The info buttons and calculated totals stay available.
Read a single-item result
The quantity cards show what you requested, how many crafting or brewing operations are needed, how many items those operations produce, and any extra output caused by recipe batch sizes.
| Section | What it means |
|---|---|
| Total Materials | Ingredients for the selected item's immediate recipe or brewing stage. |
| Raw Materials | Ingredients after the calculator expands the recipes it knows, down to source items. |
| Crafts / Brews / Fills | Operations needed for the requested output. A recipe that makes several items is rounded up to a whole operation. |
| Extra | Output above your requested quantity from those whole recipe operations. |
If an item has no modeled recipe, it appears as its own raw material with zero crafting operations. That is expected for gathered blocks and drops, and also applies to any recipe route the catalog has not yet modeled.
Plan a full build
Choose an item and quantity, then click Add to Build List. Repeat for each block or item in the project. Repeated additions of the same item combine into one row, up to 999,999 per item.
- Use +/− or edit a row's number to adjust a quantity. The build requirements recalculate after each change.
- Use × to remove one row. Clear Build removes all rows; the notice offers Undo briefly.
- Calculate Entire Build refreshes the combined plan. Raw Materials shows gathered resources; Crafting Plan lists intermediate crafting and brewing steps. Open Ingredients for this step to see the chosen ingredient and quantity for each step.
- The build count is the number of requested blocks/items, while operations and extras account for recipe output sizes.
Import a materials list
Open Import Materials List in the Build Planner. Paste the actual list text from a build guide or video description, one item per line. A video URL by itself cannot be imported.
64 Oak Planks Oak Stairs x32 Cobblestone: 2 stacks + 5
- Click Preview Matches to see recognized catalog items, quantities, and lines that need review.
- Correct unmatched names or quantities in the text and preview again. A changed paste clears the old preview.
- Click Add Matched Items to Build List. Matching items already in the build are increased; unmatched lines are skipped and remain in the text box for review.
- Click Clear Import to clear the pasted text and preview. It does not clear the Build List.
Singular and plural names both work, such as 4 chests and 3 hoppers. Generic blocks default to Stone, and generic buttons to Stone Button. With Use inventory enabled, each generic line uses one suitable material from selected storage, preferring the largest available quantity after existing build allocations and specifically named pasted items. If no suitable stock remains, the Stone default is used. Review the substitutions in the preview; to choose another material or button type, name it explicitly and preview again.
Accepted forms include a number before the item, an x after it, a count in parentheses, or stacks. The parser uses each item's stack size. The paste is limited to 200 lines and 20,000 characters; each item quantity must be between 1 and 999,999.
Choose recipe materials
Some recipes allow different ingredients or crafting methods. When the selected item offers a choice, the Material Preferences panel appears. Choose an option in its dropdown; the single-item calculation and current build recalculate with that selection.
For a larger build, set preferences before exporting so the Raw Materials and Crafting Plan reflect the version you intend to make. Preferences are saved with the current browser workspace and with named build copies.
Use materials from your world
Open My Inventory to import your scanner JSON and manage storage locations. The Windows Inventory Scanner runs on your own PC and exports a JSON file for the planner.
- Download the Windows Inventory Scanner. In File Explorer, right-click the ZIP, choose Extract All, and open the extracted BedrockInventoryScanner folder.
- Install Python 3.11.9 (64-bit). Scroll to Files and choose Windows installer (64-bit). Keep Python Launcher, pip, and Tcl/Tk and IDLE selected.
- In File Explorer, double-click Setup.cmd in the extracted scanner folder once. Stay connected to the Internet until it says Setup complete, then press a key to close the setup window.
- Save and exit your locally saved Bedrock world. In the same extracted folder, double-click Start Scanner.cmd to open the scanner window.
- Select your world or browse to the individual folder containing db and level.dat. Check the saved-and-exited confirmation, click Scan World and Export Inventory, and save the JSON outside the world folder.
- Open My Inventory and click Choose File under Import inventory (.json). Select the exported JSON and review the world name, scan time, scanner notes and unmatched item types.
- Choose storage locations and check the player identity. Chests, barrels and the local player's storage are selected initially; other machines and other players are not.
- Turn on Use inventory, then return to the Build Planner. The current build recalculates automatically; Calculate Entire Build refreshes it manually. The Entire Build result uses finished build items first, then stored ingredients and raw materials, allocating each stored item once.
- Use Only show missing items to hide covered rows. Check Stored items allocated to this build to see what to take from storage.
You can keep Python 3.14 installed alongside 3.11.9; the scanner setup selects Python 3.11.
Inventory is off by default and applies to the Entire Build calculation. Single-item calculations show full recipes. Raw Materials and Crafting Plan, including Excel and print, reflect the active inventory option. Recipe choices remain the ones you selected; inventory does not automatically substitute wood or change the crafting route.
Rescan after playing; this is not a live connection. Placed blocks and storage entities such as chest minecarts are not counted. The scanner supports saved container Items lists, saved player inventory and Ender Chest lists, and recognized shulker/bundle contents. Unknown numeric IDs, unrecognized legacy variants, or new storage formats are excluded with notes rather than guessed. Current-version saves still need validation against a real world.
Inventory is saved separately in this browser and is not included in build backups. Keep your scanner JSON. Clearing a build leaves inventory available; Clear Inventory removes it. Turn off Use inventory to return to full requirements.
Save and back up builds
The top navigation opens the Build Planner, My Inventory, Saved Builds, User Guide, and What's New. Your current build, material preferences, inventory selections, and pasted import draft stay available as you switch pages. Your current build is automatically saved in this browser when storage is available. On the Saved Builds page, type a name and click Save Copy to keep a separate snapshot. Up to 25 named copies can be stored.
- Select a saved build and click Load to replace the current build with that copy. Save the current build by name first if you want to keep both.
- Saving with the same name updates that copy. Delete removes the selected saved copy without clearing the current build.
- Saved builds are local to the browser and device. Clearing site data can remove access to them. On Saved Builds, use Download Backup (.json) under Build Backup to keep the current build, named copies, material preferences, and pasted import draft in a portable file.
To move builds to another browser or device, open Saved Builds there and select the downloaded file under Restore from a backup file. Review the item and named build counts, then click Restore Backup. This replaces the current build and all named copies in that browser; download its backup first if you want to keep them. Invalid files and unknown catalog items are rejected without changing your build. Backup files are limited to 5 MB.
The Excel workbook is for reading or printing a plan; use the JSON backup to restore an editable build.
Export and print
With a Build List calculated, click Export to Excel in Build Requirements. The downloaded .xlsx workbook normally has three sheets: Build List, Raw Materials, and Crafting Plan. The Crafting Plan sheet includes the ingredients for each step. With inventory enabled, extra sheets include scan details, build coverage, collection coverage, and quantities to take from storage.
Use Print All Lists for the complete plan. The individual print buttons show only the Build List, Raw Materials, or Crafting Plan in your browser's print dialog. Printing includes step ingredients even when their on-screen disclosures are closed. Print and export use the current quantities and material preferences.
Potions and brewing
Choose the Potions category or search for a potion by name. The calculator includes modeled brewing stages and ingredients in Raw Materials and Crafting Plan. A brewing operation may fill multiple bottles, so the number of brews can differ from the number of potions produced.
If you need several potion types, add each one to the Build List and review the combined plan. When a potion or variant has no modeled recipe, it is counted as a source item rather than expanded into ingredients.
Questions and fixes
Why does my result show zero crafts?
The item has no recipe in the catalog. Gather or obtain the requested quantity directly. Some alternate recipes are still under review; see Known gaps.
Why are there extra items?
Recipes make whole batches. For example, crafting 10 Oak Planks takes three four-plank crafts, producing 12 and leaving 2 extra.
Why did an import line not match?
Check the name against the item search and include a quantity. If a name could refer to more than one catalog item, use the exact displayed name. Preview lists skipped lines and their reasons.
Can I paste a YouTube URL?
Paste the materials lines from the video's description instead. The importer reads text and does not fetch or extract video descriptions from links.
Where did my saved build go?
Saved builds use this browser's local storage. Check that you are using the same browser and device and that site data has not been cleared. If you downloaded a JSON backup, select it under Build Backup to restore the current and named builds.
What if items, calculations, or saved builds fail?
Use Retry Loading Items if the catalog fails to load. After a calculation error, adjust the quantity or material choice and calculate again. For a browser storage error, use Try Again; stored data is left untouched and new changes will not autosave until it works. If you changed this page after the error, download a JSON backup before retrying because a successful restore will replace the current build. If export or print fails, use its button again.
What is the difference between Clear Import and Clear Build?
Clear Import removes the pasted text and preview only. Clear Build empties the current Build List and briefly offers Undo; named saved copies remain separate.
